I am wondering if there might have been a misalignment during assembly. There are a lot of parts in that area that rely on locator pins for accurate alignment. I have seen cases on similar equipment where the pins were left out, or deformed during assembly leading to failure of shaft splines and sometimes bent shafts.

The brake switch on the 4300 is located behind the cowling on the right side. Removing this isn't too difficult. It will require a 10 mm wrench and a phillips screwdriver. Once in there you should be able to see how the switch works. You should be able to hear it click as you push on the pedal. If it doesn't you can adjust it. Deere changed the adjustment in that area a few times, so you may be dealing with a slot that allows adjustments or may have to add/remove shims. The lever on the switch can also be bent slightly if necessary to get the right range of motion.

In my opinion the 4710 eHydro is an excellent choice for your applications. I have used the 4710 with both a rear rotary mower (8 ft MX8) and moving dirt with a loader. The LoadMatch feature works great in both these applications to allow you to put almost all of the tractor power into getting work done. When mowing large areas, you can set the cruise to the fastest speed you want to go, then if the grass becomes too heavy, the tractor will slow itself down to keep the engine speed up and maintain the cut quality. When using the tractor with a loader, it is impossible to stall the engine while pushing into a pile. In A range the wheels will just keep driving. In B range, you may have enough power to hit hydro relief pressure.

I also think the hydro in the 4710 is substantially more durable than in the 55 series. This is based mostly on looks (it is much beefier looking). Also note that John Deere uses this same hydro in the 110 TLB which is a much heavier tractor. Try and talk with a service manager at a dealer to get his opinion. These tractors have been out for 7-8 months now so they should be developing some reputation. I also have not seen any complaints about hydro failures on the tractor bulletin boards.
